Therapy for Anxiety
Anxiety is the most common mental health concern in the United States, affecting nearly 1 in 5 every year. Anxiety can be crippling and negatively impact all areas of a person’s life, preventing them from doing things that others do with ease, and from taking appropriate risk that can improve the quality of their lives.
The good news is that anxiety is incredibly treatable.
Symptoms of anxiety can include:
Excessive and uncontrollable worry about any number of events.
Feeling restlessness, keyed up, or on edge.
Being easily fatigued.
Reduced ability to concentrate often due to overthinking.
Irritability.
Muscle tension, nausea, dry mouth, shortness of breath.
Sleep disturbance.

Anxiety disorders often run in families, however it is unknown if they are genetic or the result of social learning passed from parent to child.
Faulty wiring of brain circuits related to emotion and fear.
EMDR Therapy for Anxiety
Many therapists find Eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR) to be an effective therapy for the treatment of anxiety.
During EMDR therapy, you'll learn skills to help you regulate your emotions and calm your nervous system. This can help reduce your anxiety in the moment. EMDR also helps you identify the situations causing your anxiety and helps you “reprocess” them to develop a more balanced perspective on those issues. This can lead to a significant reduction in your overall anxiety. In addition, EMDR therapy includes a section where you practice imagining yourself successfully managing anxiety-provoking situations in the future. This helps you confront situations that used to cause anxiety with a new found calm and confidence.
